Our Connection to God through Holy Orders
The sacrament of Holy Orders is a very important sacrament in the Catholic Church. Without it, there would not be any priests, deacons, or bishops to follow in Jesus' footsteps and lead the children of God in the Church.
The sacrament of Holy Orders is a major sign of God's love in the Church. A priest (bishop or deacon) chooses to fulfill the duties of leading the Church in its faith and continue the work of the Apostles. As we know from Theology of the Body, the priest represents Christ (as the groom) and the Church is his bride. Priests, deacons, and bishops are dedicated members of the Church that show us God's love through the Eucharist and the other sacraments.
Jesus is always revealed in the sacrament of Holy Orders. By accepting God's call to enter the priesthood, a man (waiting to receive the sacrament) recognizes the fact that he is the continuation of Jesus and his Apostles in the Church. Every Sunday when we attend Mass, the priest performs the Eucharist just like Jesus did at the Last Supper. God has a plan for everyone in life and for those men who accept the priesthood, they are continuing in the line of the Twelve Apostles and receive that call from Jesus to continue his mission in the Church.
